The Blue Crab

We made it a goal this past week to try blue crab since it's a dish that Myrtle Beach is known for. On our first night out, we struck out-no blue crab. On Tuesday, we went to a place KNOWN for their blue crab and guess what...they were out! Wednesday we did sushi, and one of my rolls had blue crab in it. The crab meat was fried though, and quite frankly, the fried taste trumped the crab taste.Thursday we did a seafood buffet and were certain we would meet our goal there. STRIKE! THEY HAD ALASKAN KING CRAB...in Myrtle Beach. Go figure. Don't get me wrong, all you can eat crab legs are never bad, but still not what were were searching for.

Finally, on Friday we had our chance! We ate at "The Blue Crab." Shockingly, they had blue crab!! It was also by far the best restaurant we ate at in Myrtle Beach. There was a wait of about 20 minutes, but it was okay because they had a HUGE fenced in play area where Brian could play!
When we were seated, and started to review the menu, we saw that the blue crab was "market price." Upon inquiring about the cost with the waitress, we were excited to find out that male crabs were $4 and females were $2. So, we each ordered a male crab. Shawn got fish tacos, and I got crab meat pizza, too! YUM! The food was on the table in about 10 minutes and in the meantime I decided to checkout the drink menu. I ended up ordering a "strawberry shortcake" which was a slushie made of strawberries, ice cream and amaretto. DOUBLE YUM!
Okay, so the food was amazing! We were a bit surprised when the crabbies arrived. THEY HAD FACES! And were were given little mallets to break them open with. Ahhhh!

Once I got over that, and dove in, they were pretty delicious! Brian enjoyed his french fries as well AND there were big televisions with SPORTS playing, so we actually got to eat our meal in peace!

All in all the place was extremely family friendly with yummy food! Oh and the bill was pretty awesome too. We ate for under $30 with tip (if you don't count my drink)!

PS. Shawn gets the photographer's award for this post. He took all of the pictures, except the one of my sushi. Isn't the one of Brian running too cute?!
