So, we went for the speech evaluation today. Bottom line is that Brian will be starting speech therapy once a week. It may be a month from now-with the way lovely insurance companies like to take their time-but it's happening!
The evaluator made me feel really good in all decisions that we have made up to this point. She said he seems to be able to say all sounds and his intonation is great. In other words, she does not think his speech issue is related to his hearing loss. Which translates into-we did not make a bad decision by not aiding him. Whew.
She also said I did the right thing by getting a 2nd opinion even though we have been denied by First Steps 3 times. Whew.
The way she summed up his issue is this. A lot of what he says is scripted, or repetitive. He says things he has heard said and does not often speak spontaneously. This is the perfect summation of what I had been trying explain to First Steps!
She thinks one on one therapy will really help this issue. She also said that he might be put in group therapy if the one on one starts to show results. I am fine with one on one, but group might be fun too!
The bad news for today though is that we found out his audiologist Shana is leaving. This will be our second audiologist that we have lost. So sad. We think we will choose a new one in Kentucky so that we won't have to drive to main anymore. If we have to change, we may as well get some benefit from it! We can't exactly fly to New York once a year to get a hearing test (New York is where Shana is heading)! Although we might consider it...she's pretty great!

Quick Updates
*Potty training is still going really well! Brian has had few accidents the last couple of days and NONE today! He did spend a few hours in a pull up here and there, and that's kind of hit of miss-but mostly he keeps those pretty dry too. And he stayed dry ALL NIGHT last night. Plus today we went back to work and he used the potty there twice with no accidents!! I was really concerned today because he didn't do his #2 midday like he usually does. But, right before bath time I put him on the toilet to pee and he got the other out too, so all is well there! Yay for Brian!
*The baby doctor yesterday said that everything is perfect with Miss Lilah. My blood pressure, pee test and belly measurement were all "perfect." Her heart rate was 148 which was "perfect." Yay for Lilah! Next visit = glucose test. My back is really sore...could have something to do with sitting on the side of the tub for 4 days. Ha ha! I am also so, so tired. That could have something to do with the fact that Mr. Brian has not napped in over a week. Yeah, I think those days are gone for good. Not so yay!
*Brian is having a speech evaluation at Children's tomorrow. They got him in really quick for which I am very grateful! Hopefully they can help get his speech moving along. He does really well when he wants something, but he's a bit lazy when it comes to talking for any other reason. Who knows, maybe he won't need any speech therapy, but it's something we certainly need to check on. So, yay for Children's for getting him in so fast!

Lessons Learned
Well, booty camp Day 2 has come to a close and we are calling the weekend a success.
Brian has only had two and a half accidents today! The half happened very close to bath time. I think he was just tired and couldn't hold it in.
Yesterday was not so easy. We spent most of the morning cleaning up pee every time we turned around. We lost count of how many accidents and how many pairs of underwear we went through. I know we did two loads of laundry...not all from accidents, but quite a bit from accidents. The underwear is small, but the copious amounts of towels used to clean were not.
I spent the early part of the morning covering the couch in plastic (which by the way Brian found very entertaining), getting the bathroom all set up (potty seat on top of big potty, stool ready for hand washing). Brian and I had also made a trip to the Evil Empire the day before to buy lots of salty snacks, sugary drinks and craft supplies! The salty snacks were supposed to make him thirsty and the sugary drinks were supposed to make him drink a lot because he wouldn't be able to quench his thirst. The craft supplies were just because he and I have been having so much fun making crafty things lately and I figured since we were going to be stuck here all weekend, we may as well have something fun to do!
Back to Day 1 though...there were a couple of low points. One was when I removed Brian from the toilet after a long time of sitting and he promptly turned around and peed right on Shawn's leg. Shawn was not happy. His leg got peed on twice yesterday. Like with aim involved.
But by late afternoon we hit a breaking point and has several successes. We lost count of how many, which we considered to be a good thing. We even got a 1/2 success when it came to going poo on the potty! He started to go and I ran him into the bathroom so he could finish on the toilet. The Buzz Light Year underwear stayed dry for a long, long time after the poo success and many candy rewards were consumed.
We found that if we had something in the bathroom to keep him occupied, it helped. The stickers I bought from Walmart helped tremendously! We also read lots of books and did his magnetic puzzle countless times.
However, around dinner time, Mr. Brian decided he was done. D.O.N.E. He just was not himself. He refused to eat (pizza!) and would have NOTHING to do with sitting on the potty. So we made the decision to quit for the day. We put him in a diaper and let him play for an hour before bedtime with no mention of the potty. He returned to his normal, happy self.
He and Shawn played trains and even made a super Cranky the Crane! It was fun to sit and watch them playing together.
That's when I realized that even if potty training wasn't successful, we learned a HUGE lesson this weekend. We learned how important it is to take the time to play with our kid(s), not just for a few minutes here and there, but for a long amount of time when possible. Maybe not even a whole day, but several hours of just being together as a family doing what the kid(s) want to do is really important. This is something I hope we will not soon forget!
At bath time Brian stood to pee in the tub and I grabbed him and put him on the toilet for good measure. After Shawn got him to sleep, we talked and decided to see how Day 2 went and just go with our instincts. I'm pretty sure we both went to bed thinking that the next day would be a fail.
We were wrong! We woke up and Brian stayed dry for almost two hours. Then he had his first accident. We were disappointed, but kept our game faces on and kept offering him water. He drank a lot of water. We also let him watch of his "Curious George" videos. This ended up being a great tool because each episode is a little less than 20 minutes long. So, every time an episode ended, we took him to the potty. He probably peed on the potty 5 times if not more before noon!
Throughout the day he kept drinking water and kept having successes. We even managed to spread out the trips to longer than 20 minutes apart. He got to the point that there was no waiting involved. As soon as he sat on the potty, he peed! We even had another poo success (with all of it making it in the potty this time)! He did pee on me a little en route, but once he was finished going poo, he had to pee a little more and took control by pushing his little part down so he wouldn't get me wet again!
The train play has continued into today. We also watched UK earn a spot in the final four. Go CATS!! Unfortunately Daddy can be a train hog...ha ha ha!!
As I said above Brian had two and a half accidents today, but since we can't count the times he went on the potty, I would say they far outweigh the accidents! He even brought me new underwear to put on him late in the evening (after a successful trip to the potty). I guess he was bored with the other pair! After the half accident, we tried to have him sit on the potty and finish, but he was just too worn out. It has to be taxing to learn such an important skill in such a short amount of time. We started bath time and once again I grabbed him because he was getting ready to pee in the tub. This time, he did not pee at all until he was on the potty! He's doing such a great job!
I have decided to take tomorrow off to give it one more day at home. The only trip out we will have to take is to pick up Max, which should take about 10 minutes. Hopefully we will continue with our success sans Daddy. I sure will miss the help!
We are so, so proud of Brian for his big accomplishment! This is a kid who had never even gone to the bathroom on the potty before last Monday. And really before that he was afraid to even sit on the potty. He has worked so hard! We are not by any means completely there yet, but if he continues to work hard and his learning curve continues to be what it has been for the past two days, we are well on our way to a diaper free house. (At least during the day and at least until JULY!)

No Pants
A New Dish
Over the weekend Shawn discovered that Brian likes Ramen noodles. It's not exactly eating meat, but it sort of tastes like meat, so maybe a step in the right direction??? And as Shawn said, it's cheap!! Right, like our main concern is how much Brian's food costs!! We just want him to EAT!
This was a special thing for him to eat in Shawn's eyes. Shawn's grandmother, Nanny, used to make "chicken soup" AKA ramen noodles for all of the grand kids when they were growing up.

23 Weeks!
It's hard to believe that I am already 23 weeks along in my pregnancy with baby Lilah!! Here is the 22.5 week shot from last week.
And here is the one from my pregnancy with Brian. I don't think my bump is that much different, but my rear sure is! I have no clue how much weight I have gained, but it doesn't look like more than what I gained the last time so I guess I am on track. It's funny because with Brian I definitely kept track, but this time I'm really not. For one thing, the scale is not out where I can see it (since our house is on the market), and for another, I think I am just more comfortable with the weight gain. I know I am eating okay and exercising as much as I can, so I am really not that worried about it. Maybe the worry will come after...
Thanks to all who have been asking how I am feeling. I really am feeling well. I'm tired, but I am constantly chasing a 2 year old so that's to be expected!

Confirmation
We had a follow up ultra sound today and confirmed it...it's a GIRL! I thought so, but I hated the idea of getting ready for pink and then needing to pull out all of the blue. Not that a boy would be bad...I love my boy, but it would have been a surprise and we all know much I dislike those! Plus I didn't want to be calling the poor child Lilah for the next several months is she was going to turn out to be a he! Can you imagine the complex??!
You may be thinking...an ultra sound on a Sunday? Well, we went to a place called "Becoming Mom" up in Ohio. The nurse at my OB office secretly recommended it when she told me that they couldn't do another ultra sound for a long while because it wasn't medically necessary. I totally understood this, but I definitely wanted confirmation, so off we went!
Their equipment was not nearly as good as my doctors, but you could definitely see the "three lines" and the lack of a boy part. We also got a shot of her foot. Her back was facing us, so no profile shots, but we weren't there to see her face!!!
Bring on the PINK!
Mom and I already spent the Kohls cash she earned last week when we picked out Brian's summer wardrobe. Lilah will be a very well dressed newborn. Just like her big brother was!
And speaking of that big bro, I decided to jump into a little booty camp preview tonight when the opportunity presented itself!
Brian typically pees in the tub as the water is running into the basin. This means we drain and refill basically every night. Since it's such a predictable occurrence, I used it to my advantage tonight. As soon as the first dribble of pee exited his little boy part, I grabbed him and sat him on the toilet.
The result?!
A screaming, raging tantrum.
Just kidding! He peed on the potty!!!!
I realize this doesn't completely count, BUT you gotta start somewhere!
So we praised him and had a big celebration as he giggled away.
As mom said at least he didn't fight me on it. He did go in the potty! Progress my friends, progress!

Brian and the Terrible, No Good, Very Bad Week
Ever read the book, "Alexander and the Terrible, No Good , Very Bad Day." It's all about this little boy lamenting all of the terrible things that happened to him.
I feel like Brian has had that week. Well, technically I have had that week because of Brian's actions.
Wednesday we went to the preschool for our 2nd day back. Brian kept taking off his pants. As is every time I turned around his pants were off. He is very strong and it's very hard for me to fight him back into his pants. I am pretty sure I had to do this 4 times.
We went to leave and he took off toward the dumpster (we park in the back). There is much mud by the dumpster and it's one of his favorite places. Sadly it has rained a lot, so there were also lots of mud puddles.
Guess where he headed? Yep, right into it.
So I stripped him from the waist down and put him in the car.
Surprisingly, he did not take a nap. (I say that with much sarcasm.)
As soon as he got into our house, he took his diaper off. It took me an hour to get it back on. He's really strong. I put him time out on the toilet. Nothing worked. I finally had to sit on his leg and wrestle it on.
Yesterday, we had a better day. It was nice out. We walked to the park.
He was eating dinner and seemed fine, and all of a sudden he puked all over the living room floor. Now I know he cannot help that, but WHAT DOES HE HAVE AGAINST CLEAN FLOORS? Seriously! (Remember what he did to the kitchen floor last week??!)
Today I kept him home. He was running a fever and even though there was only one puke incident, I thought it would be best to be on the safe side.
He refused to put on his pants this morning, so I changed his diaper and put his pajama pants back on. I was fixing my hair and noticed him running through the hall naked from the waist down. (See a pattern here?) So I grabbed him and wrestled him back into a diaper. I smelled poo, but didn't see any, so I figured he just had gas. Stupid. Stupid, stupid, stupid.
Let me back up here and make mention of the fact that Brian had chocolate fish (after powdered sugared donuts) for breakfast. I realize that this was not the best choice for breakfast period, let alone for a toddler who puked the night before, but he's two and that's what he wanted and he insisted.
Anyway, I was sitting on the couch after the diaper incident and noticed that some of the chocolate fish had fallen into the crack between two of the couch cushions.
WRONG!
Oh my gross. Poo. That's where it went. I should trust my nose.
But seriously, it's like living with a WILD ANIMAL.
What's to come tomorrow? I can honestly say I don't even want to know.
"Booty Camp" is on the calendar for next weekend. I am hoping Shawn is on board. If we aren't going to keep our clothes on, we are going to attempt to learn to go to the bathroom in the proper place.
***UPDATED**** FYI while I was writing this post, Brian got into the one remaining plant in our home, which by the way he has NEVER EVEN TOUCHED, and made a HUGE mess. He is now in time out bawling his eyes out. He can sit. I need to cool off. Anyone want a two year old?

LOVE
Sorry for the lack of posting. We are getting back to work and out of our "infirmary" phase, so hopefully blogging will be able to resume soon.
Just a quick story though...
I had to fight Brian to sleep the last two nights because Shawn can't lift anything (and my parents were unavailable). Last night he was all over the place and kept hitting me in the stomach. I kept saying, "Brian stop it, you're hurting Lilah!" He finally stopped, inched his away up me, and said, (looking right into my eyes) "Mama, I love Lilah."
LOVE.

The Bump and other Randomness
Here is the most recent bump shot. 20.5 weeks!! Brian decided to help by pointing to Lilah.
Also some random pictures of Brian...
The only happy moment at Children's Hospital last Friday. We arrived in pjs and until there was mention of a medical bracelet, all was well.

Always An Adventure
The boy that I watch/tutor, Max, has a saying about my house. He says, it's "always an adventure." Cant' wait to tell him about tonight's events...
Brian decided around 8:30 that he was going to remove his clothing. I wasn't sure why,but he was pretty adamant about it, so I let him. I gave him strict instructions that his diaper was to STAY ON.
A few minutes later I went to the bathroom. I heard Shawn come up the stairs and immediately start yelling like a mad man at Brian.
Apparently my instructions were not followed.
Brian's diaper was in a heap in on the floor of the living room
Brian was in the kitchen.
Peeing.
And pooping.
On. The. Kitchen. Floor.
Ever heard the expression, "my floor is so clean you could eat off of it"?
Mine is. Now.

One Down, One to Go
Brian and I are home from his surgery (Shawn had to go to work). He had rough morning. He was extremely difficult. We ended up having to let them give him a calming drug before anesthesia! Thankfully it worked and we got his stupid bracelet on him (around his ankle). He never did wear the hospital gown and went straight for his IV as soon as he woke up. He' s a tough little guy.
The surgery went well and took about 25 minutes. He was really cranky in recovery, but calmed down once he got his lolly. That's exactly what everyone wants after surgery, right? A sugary lolly pop. Gross! Whatever works, right?
He has already been running around (only when he gets away from me) and eating since we have been home. Mostly we are just watching a lot of Smurf episodes.
Now we just have to get ready from Shawn's surgery next week. Sounds like fun, right?!

Baby Lilah
It's a GIRL!!!! We think. We can't do anything the easy way and we make incredibly stubborn children, so the ultra sound was a bit interesting on Tuesday. The baby was all tucked into a ball, but after much effort on the tech's part, she got a shot of the all important parts and concluded that we have a little girl on the way. She would not say with 100% certainty, but she said she can't do that anyway. So that's what we are going with!
Little Lilah Vivian is healthy-she's in plenty of fluid, her heart rate in great. Mommy is fine too. Blood pressure normal, weight gain fine, measuring perfectly.
Here are some pictures. Lots of them actually. Turns out the tech could have been a member of our family. She was stubborn too. So we were in there for a long time and got lots of pictures!
This is the parts shot. The legs are up top and her butt is below them. You can pretty well see that there is no boy part in between the legs.
Next appointment is on March 29th. Not sure if or when we will have an other ultra sound, so we may have a big surprise come July. But for now, we're going with girl!
*Sorry for the ridiculous delay on this. Our internet has been down the last three days. Insight came yesterday and replaced all of the cables inside and out. Thank goodness!

Not really sure about this one. I think I see a skull??

Already waving. So advanced!
Open mouth shot. Doesn't she look like a dinosaur!?
Several sweet profile shots!
